This award is presented to individuals who have made
significant contributions and impact on collegiate
speech and debate, Historically Black Colleges and
Universities, or society at large. For said contributions,
these individuals are hereby inducted into the
National HBCU Speech and Debate Hall of Fame.
Dr. Thomas F. Freeman
In appreciation for his unsurpassed excellence, his tenure as the
longest-serving HBCU Speech and
Debate Coach, and coach and mentor to Civil Rights giants Barbara Jordan and Martin Luther King, Jr. For said contributions, he is inducted into the National HBCU Speech and Debate Hall of Fame.
On the 27th day of January 2018, his name and likeness are forever enshrined in the National
HBCU Speech and Debate
Hall of Fame.
Denzel Washington
In appreciation for his strategic investment in and continuous support of transformative learning experiences through debate, we are honored to
induct Mr. Washington into the National HBCU Speech and Debate Hall of Fame.
